It’s that time of year again! The sun is shining, the temperature’s rising, and the farmers’ markets are starting to open up shop! For many Canadians, weekend trips to the market are an anticipated treat. What’s not to love about fresh produce, baked goods, handmade  provisions, and best of all – a dog friendly environment! Most markets take place outdoors, which means your four-legged friend is welcome to join you. To be sure that you don’t miss out, we’ve shortlisted a few of the most popular Vancouver farmers markets. Be sure to check them out! Rumour has it, home-made dog treats were spotted at several locations last season. Yum!

Mt. Pleasant Farmers’ Market

When: May 28th – October 8th

Sundays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Whether you’re on the hunt for the city’s freshest handmade pasta, local produce, or a spot to meet friends and family on a Sunday afternoon, the Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market is the spot to be. Quaintly yet centrally located at Dude Chilling Park (yes, you read that right), this East side gem is a gathering place for locals seeking quality, locally sourced goods. Visit once or twice and we promise you’ll start seeing familiar faces. This little hot spot is right out of a storybook – a place where neighbours meet, children play, and your pups are most welcome.

When: May 6th – October 21st

Saturdays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Arguably one of Vancouver’s most well known and adored markets, Trout Lake hosts a bounty of artisanal provisions, organic meats and produce, heirloom vegetables and everything in between. What’s more? There is plenty of lake-side grass space for you and your pup to picnic and play fetch, before or after your weekend market haul. This picturesque little pop-up is nothing short of perfection. Lakeside with basket in hand, you’ll feel like you’re a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Trout Lake is located just a 15 minute walk from the Commercial-Broadway and Renfrew skytrain stations. There are also several buss options to choose from, if you’re making your way over via transit.

When: May 7th – October 22nd

Sundays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

With more than 50 unique vendors, the Kitsilano Farmers’ Market offers an incredible selection of freshly prepared meats, produce, floral arrangements, local beer, wine, and spirits, seafood, and more! Minutes from Kits and Jericho beaches, it’s no wonder this stop is a summer favourite for many Vancouverites. And of course, your pup is more than welcome to join you! Some of the city’s most favourable food trucks have been known to stop by on the regular – so you can be sure to satisfy your case of the munchies before you start your grocery shop. Visitors will also enjoy free, live entertainment and musical performances weekly. What’s not to love about that?
